Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Ajit Shin, the Canadian High Commissioner appointed in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on Shafiqur Rahman.
The meeting and breakfast meeting was held at the Amir's office in Bashundhara, Dhaka, on Thursday (October 16) morning.

At the beginning of the discussion, Canadian High Commissioner Jamaat inquired about Amir's health and wished him well.
In the meeting, the upcoming national elections of Bangladesh were mentioned as an important milestone in the path of democracy. Canada's full cooperation and technical assistance is requested for the free, fair and acceptable conduct of the elections. Besides, constructive discussions were held on establishing sustainable democracy in Bangladesh and ensuring the independence and effective role of democratic institutions.
Both sides expressed hope that bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada will be further expanded and strengthened in the future.
The meeting with Jamaat Amir was attended by the party's Assistant Secretary General and Head of Central Publicity and Media Department Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council member Mubarak Hossain and Amir's foreign affairs advisor Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hassan.
