The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) broke two vaults kept in the main branch of Agrani Bank in the name of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and found a huge amount of gold ornaments.

On Tuesday (November 25) two vaults were broken following Bangladesh Bank policy.

A CIC official said that after opening two vaults 751 and 753 in the principal branch, a total of 832 pieces of gold ornaments were recovered.

He said, the process has been completed in accordance with the relevant regulations of Bangladesh Bank.

Earlier, on September 17, two lockers were seized in a raid at the main branch of Agrani Bank located in Dilkusha of the capital based on information received from confidential sources.

According to NBR sources, two lockers were seized on suspicion of tax evasion and financial irregularities. On the same day, another vault kept in a branch of Pubali Bank was opened in the name of Sheikh Hasina. However, no gold ornaments or anything valuable was found there, said the official.

On September 10, NBR detectives seized a locker (No. 128) belonging to Sheikh Hasina at Pubali Bank's Motijheel corporate branch located in Sena Kalyan Bhavan. Two of his bank accounts were also found in the same branch that day. One of them had fixed deposit (FDR) of around Tk 12 lakh and the other Tk 44 lakh.
