Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, said the government is ready to work wholeheartedly on any policy support or environmental intervention that can bring tangible benefits to the lives of the Munda community. He said, even if we cannot solve their problems completely, we can at least start the journey of solving them.
He said these things while participating virtually in a program titled “National Sharing Meeting: From Impact to Action – Mainstreaming Climate Resilience for the Munda Community” organized at a hotel in Gulshan of the capital on Tuesday (November 25).
The environmental advisor said that the Munda community is one of the climate vulnerable communities in Bangladesh. Their heritage, nature-based lifestyle and limited socio-economic capacity are becoming more fragile under the current climate change.
“Despite having a deep connection with nature, you are now suffering the most from climate fragility, water scarcity, land scarcity and health risks,” he said.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan lamented that in many cases the traditional rights of the Munda community are neglected and their access to forests and natural resources is hindered. We are always ready to take practical steps respecting your needs, traditional way of life and rights.”
President of Breaking the Silence and Editor of Daily Ittefaq Tasmima Hossain presided over the meeting. The special guest was the Director General of the Department of Social Services. Saidur Rahman, Senior Manager of International Development of Oxfam in Korea Jungun Lee and President of Munda Community Self Help Surdhani Munda and many others.
Speakers on the occasion highlighted the need to improve the quality of life of the Munda community, protect rights, participate in equitable use of natural resources and increase climate resilience.
